The Deuce renewed for a final season by HBO
The Deuce gets one last ride to tie things up.
While the second season of HBO’s The Deuce is still underway, the network has handed out a renewal to its critically acclaimed drama. However, this mainly serves as a way for the series to offer a proper conclusion to fans because season three will be its last.
The second season debuted on September 9, however, the ratings have not been as strong as its freshman run. Nevertheless, the drama has still been impressive this season as it continues to follow the rise of the porn industry in New York City during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Franco lead the cast with the latter also serving as an executive producer. However, his participation in the series has led The Deuce to come under fire throughout this year. Allegations of sexual misconduct arose throughout 2018 with five women accusing Franco of inappropriate behavior. He has denied any misbehavior but has remained relatively quiet as HBO handled the fallout.
Creator David Simon and HBO have both defended the star since then, with both parties saying no such behavior took place on their set. Ultimately, the network decided to move ahead with the second season of The Deuce despite some of the controversy surrounding Franco. It was reported that HBO did discuss the matter with the cast and producers before coming to that decision.
Simon also took to Twitter today to thank the network for the chance to end the story on their terms.
As of now, there’s no word when the final season of The Deuce will air and how many episodes it will be. In the meantime, be sure to catch the latest episode of the series this Sunday on September 23 at 9 PM eastern time.
