Fan of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time? Well, this is your lucky day because the TV adaptation has just been picked up by Amazon!

The Wheel of Time is a fantasy epic written by Robert Jordan and is finally looking to make its debut on television. The one-hour series will be shown on Amazon Video throughout the world and is being adapted by Chuck writer Rafe Judkins, who will serve as a showrunner and executive producer. Interesting fact: Judkins first gained popularity as a contestant on Survivor.

For the past year, The Wheel of Time has been in the works at Amazon and in an interview with Deadline, Head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke stated that she was ready to check out the script and the project is very much alive.

The Wheel of Time tells a story of a world where only women can use the magic. The lead character is Moraine who is a member of an all-female organization by the name of ‘Aes Sedai’. She takes off on a journey with other women and men, one of which she believes to be the reincarnation of a powerful individual.

The journey to get the series adapted has been a tumultuous one since it was first published in 1990. In 2000, NBC got the rights but didn’t move further along with the project and in 2004, Jordan sold the TV, film, video game, and comic rights to Red Eagle who paid FXX for airtime in 2015 for a pilot that could have potentially become a series.

Amazon Studios Head, Salke, shared her enthusiasm about the upcoming project:

"“The Wheel of Time is endlessly fascinating and resonates hugely with fans as one of the best-selling global properties, and we were drawn to its timely narrative featuring powerful women at the core,” said Amazon’s Salke. “We’re thrilled to extend our relationship with devotees who’ve found the book series transformative and welcome new ones by bringing it to life on Prime Video for viewers worldwide.”"
