Disenchantment season 1, episode 6 recap: ‘Swamp and Circumstance’

In episode 6 of Netflix original Disenchantment, Princess Bean becomes an Ambassador. Can she handle the pressure or will she get bogged down?

It’s well established that Disenchantment’s Princess Bean (Princess Bean) has a drinking problem, and is otherwise disappointing to her father, King Zøg (John DiMaggio).

So, perhaps against his better judgment, Zøg decides to make her Ambassador to Dankmire. It makes sense, as Zøg is married to Queen Oona (Tress MacNeille) of Dankmire, and it could be an easy role for Bean.

However, things are rarely as easy as they seem. Bean’s role is actually serious, as Dankmire and Dreamland had fought a 100-year war over a certain canal.

Zøg’s marriage to Oona is what halted the war. As it turns out, even back then Bean was jeopardizing things. She apparently put a dead owl in their wedding cake and who knows what else! So, when Bean is tasked with a speech during a trip to Dankmire, it could hurt their flimsy alliance.

Bean Hurts the Flimsy Alliance

While hanging out at a place called Muddruckers, Luci (Eric Andre) and Elfo (Nat Faxon) make the mistake of ordering drinks. Luci spikes Bean’s drink, and she shows up drunk to the ceremonial dinner “lamprey vivant” dinner.

To save the situation, Prince Derek gives a speech instead. Unfortunately,  Ambassador Bean ends up dangling naked from the chandelier and she vomits. This results in the alliance ending.

As the Dreamlanders flee the Dankmirans, their boat is split in half by the loch, separating Bean and her dad. Bean, Elfo and Luci end up in muskrat territory and get warned about a swamp monster (oh, and Elfo and Luci get in a fight).

Meanwhile, a pair of rednecks kidnaps Zøg, Derek and Bean, saying Zøg’s precious canal drove them off their land. The punishment? They wish to cook Zøg up for the aforementioned swamp monster.

As it turns out, the two shouldn’t have bothered, as the swamp monster eats them instead. Then Bean escapes and takes out the swamp monster like it’s nothing, making father Zøg very proud indeed.
