Elite season 1, episode 6 recap: Cuando el dique se rompa

As Elite nears the end of its first season, tensions at Las Encinas continue to rise, and secrets are revealed that upend several lives.

To quote a Led Zeppelin song, this is the episode “when the levee breaks” (cuando el dique se rompa). Secrets are exposed and alliances unravel, setting Marina’s (María Pedraza) murder in motion. The culprit is still a mystery, but it’s now clearer than ever that several people had a motive to kill her. Here’s a look at what went down in Elite‘s sixth episode.

Marina and Carla

The episode opens with Ventura (Ramón Esquinas) being arrested. The police don’t have a particularly strong case against him because he had an insurance policy with Antonio (Alfredo Villa). Carla (Ester Expósito), concerned about her father getting arrested next, tells Marina that evidence of all their fathers’ underhanded dealings is inside one of Antonio’s watches.

But, of course, now Nano (Jaime Lorente) has that watch. Marina convinces Nano not to sell it, but he then says he wants to use it for extortion. Carla doesn’t know about Nano’s involvement but begins to suspect that Marina had something to do with the theft.

Ventura and Guzmán

Guzmán (Miguel Bernardeau) is the only member of the family who goes to visit Ventura in jail. While he wants to think the best of his father, he also wants to confront him after learning that Ventura has left them with nothing. The family is broke. There’s not even enough money to bail Ventura out.

Ventura assures Guzmán that he used the money to keep the company afloat and that he’ll recover it soon. However, Guzmán calls his bluff and tells him that he knows about his cocaine habit. Ventura is devastated, and a sympathetic Guzmán chooses to stand by him.

Marina and Omar

When the principal, Azucena (Elisabet Gelabert), discovers Marina’s stash in her locker, she plans to tell Marina’s mother Laura. However, Marina uses her ace against Martín (Jorge Suquet) again, and he talks Azucena into letting her off the hook.

There’s one condition, though. Azucena wants the name of the dealer who’s selling drugs on her campus. A horrified Marina tries to keep negotiating, but she ultimately gives up Omar, infuriating Nadia (Mina El Hammani) and Ander (Áron Piper).

Marina, Nano, and Samuel

The reveal that ends up affecting the most characters is Marina’s pregnancy. Samuel (Itzan Escamilla) and Nano take her to the hospital after she collapses at their house and, thus, learn the news first. She’s fourth months along, so Samuel knows he’s not the father and Nano knows he is.

Marina considers getting an abortion, though viewers already know she won’t go through it because she was pregnant at the time of her death. Nano tells Marina he wants to elope with her and that the baby has a minuscule chance of contracting HIV, according to Google. Marina doesn’t give a definitive answer but agrees to consider the idea.

Samuel insists he’s not mad at Marina for getting pregnant by another guy since they weren’t together then. But he is obsessively, even creepily, determined to find out the identity of the father. Marina refuses to help, and Samuel takes Nano’s word for it when he says it’s not him.

Thus, Samuel makes a wild leap. When Marina refuses to finish her final exam, Martín assumes she’s trying to blackmail again. Samuel overhears him say that he wants to “settle this problem.” Ironically, in the end, it is settled — just not in the way Martín had hoped.

Samuel tries to attack Martín, drawing the attention of Azucena. When she asks what’s going on, Samuel blurts out that Martín “took advantage of his student and got her pregnant.” Nadia subsequently reveals that he took a bribe, which Marina had told her about earlier.

In Azucena’s office, the first allegation is seemingly dismissed, but the second is still being debated. Lucrecia (Danna Paola) tries to deny the deal, calling Marina crazy, but the jig is up when Martín admits his culpability. Azucena immediately fires him and suspends Lucrecia for two months.

The episode ends with an angry Samuel telling Nano that he wants in on his watch extortion scheme.
