You’re the Worst announces premiere date and drops trailer for final season
FXX, the network behind the comedy You’re the Worst, dropped a trailer and announced a January 9, 2019 release date for the final season of the series.
Based on the trailer, it looks like You’re the Worst‘s fifth and final season will center on the nuptials of Chris Geere’s Jimmy Shive-Overly and Aya Cash’s Gretchen Cutler. As fans know, the show follows the long and winding road of the pair’s romance. After a whirlwind courtship, some rough patches, and various personal struggles, they’ve committed to each other long-term — or at least they think they have.
As the trailer indicates, Jimmy and Gretchen’s love story is “ugly and uncomfortable.” They’re two messed up people who don’t seem like they’d share a healthy relationship. But in each other, they may have found exactly what they need.

The series — a comedic examination of what it means to find love and happiness today — was created by writer and executive producer Stephen Falk. The ensemble also includes Kether Donohue, who plays Gretchen’s best friend Lindsay Jillian, and Desmin Borges, who plays Jimmy’s roommate, a war veteran who was previously homeless.
At August’s Television Critic’s Association Press Tour, Falk revealed that the upcoming season’s first episode will be an homage to 1990s romantic comedies and the series’ ensemble won’t be involved in at least part of the episode.
