Behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Gotham have revealed that Penguin and the Riddler will be donning comics-accurate costumes in season five.

As fans already know, Gotham‘s fifth and final season, premiering January 3 will feature a long-awaited appearance by Batman.

But as the prequel series comes to an end on FOX, what can we expect to see from The Dark Knight’s adversaries? How will the iconic villains come into their own once and for all?

While plot details remain largely under wraps, behind-the-scenes photos have revealed that at least one dynamic duo will be getting wardrobe upgrades this season.

Oswald Cobblepot, aka Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), and Ed Nygma, aka The Riddler (Corey Michael Smith), have been dressing in the vein of their alter egos for a while now.

However, the photos confirm that they will be sporting their most comics-accurate costumes yet in season five.

Riddler can be seen wearing green sunglasses, green pants and a long green coat covered in black and white question marks. The bright green suit and bowler hat he debuted in season three’s “How The Riddler Got His Name” now look quite subtle by comparison.

As for Penguin, the 2000s emo boy hair is gone or at least covered up (RIP). In the photos, Penguin can be seen wearing the iconic top hat, and even the signature monocle, from the comics. He also dons a long purple tailcoat.

Penguin’s transformation goes beyond his attire, though. While Penguin has traditionally been hefty in the comics, Gotham‘s Penguin has been thin since his debut.

That changes this year. The behind-the-scenes photos reveal that Penguin will put on weight.

So when in season 5 will we see Riddler and Penguin transform? Given that Riddler and Penguin are tied up Batman-style, the photos could be from the series finale in which viewers will finally get to see the grown-up Dark Knight in action ten years in the future.
