Dylan McDermott cast in Netflix comedy The Politician from Ryan Murphy
Dylan McDermott has confirmed he’ll appear in Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan’s new comedy series The Politician, coming soon to Netflix.
McDermott confirmed the news when he stopped by Sirius XM for an interview. He also said that January Jones (Mad Men) had been cast as his wife in the show. McDermott didn’t say what role he would be playing.
The Politician continues to add to its impressive cast of big names, including Tony Award winner Ben Platt as the titular politician.
Little is known about the series’ story and characters, however, it’s been reported that the show will center on Platt’s character, Payton, a wealthy man from Santa Barbara with political aspirations. The plan is for each season to focus on Payton’s involvement in a different political campaign.

The Politician is a one-hour comedy that will use its setting and characters to comment on the political scene. Murphy will direct the pilot episode.
McDermott is no stranger to Ryan Murphy fans. He starred on the first season of American Horror Story as Dr. Ben Harmon and has shown up on later seasons of the show since, often as an uncredited performer.
Of course, The Politician looks to be less horrific and more comedic, a return for Murphy to lighter fare more like his popular series Glee. McDermott has spent his career switching between genres. Recently he was seen on the sitcom LA to Vegas.
Jones has also volleyed between drama and comedy. While she’s best known for Mad Men, she’s also appeared on the sitcom The Last Man on Earth.
Of course, given the current political landscape and Murphy’s aspiration to use The Politician for social commentary, the series’ comedy could be quite black.
