Abe’s world is completely rocked by both his children’s secret lives and Midge and Joel begin to move on from their marriage on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Episode 6 of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel picks up right where Episode 5 left off.

Abe storms into the house with Midge and Susie following closely behind him. No one knows what he’s going to do because he says absolutely nothing.

Tony Shalhoub is brilliant when he speaks, but even more so when he says nothing. He drinks a glass of lemonade and goes to bed. The next day, Midge and Susie wake up on the porch and are still not sure where they stand with Abe.

As Susie wonders back to her cabin, she encounters what looks like a search party being conducted by the camp staff. As she approaches and they see here, they freak out! Thank God Susie is OK! The search party was for her!

So, Susie, who’s not a real employee at the resort, had made such an impression on the staff that they noticed when she and her plunger went “missing.” She’s in so deep; she’s even part of the resort’s end of the year show. More on that later.

At breakfast, Abe is still uncomfortable with Midge, and they do their best of recreating the Baby and Dr. Houseman scene in Dirty Dancing on the porch overlooking the lake. Only it’s not as tense and doesn’t end with Midge walking off crying.

Abe, trying to take back control of a situation he has no control of, tells Midge she can’t tell her family about her new career until after the new year. She needs to “lay low.” Midge agrees. It just goes to show that even though she’s an adult, she is still very much a little girl taking orders from her father. She lets other people take control of her own life – another sign of her immaturity.

As Abe comes to terms with one child’s secret life, his other child throws him for a loop.

Abe has been pushing Bell Labs to hire Noah for months. He brings him by and his blindsided with the news that Noah works for the CIA, so he will “never work for Bell Labs.” The way in which Abe’s colleagues, the head of security, and head of legal tell him, in the “secure” room is hilarious.

But Abe is devastated that he not only doesn’t know his daughter but really doesn’t know his son. He seems to be more upset about Noah though.

Rose manages to get information out of Astrid (Noah’s wife) that Noah is in the CIA but doesn’t kill anyone…she thinks.

The end-of-the-year show at the resort doesn’t even compare to Kellerman’s. In fact, it’s a hokey song and dance of stereotypical countries from around the world. They’re so serious about it, but Midge, of course, finds it hilarious. “The rest of the world is going to get us for this.”

The highlight, though, is Susie shimmying and shaking her hips around the dance floor representing Brazil. I figured she would pop up somewhere in the show, but it was better than I ever imagined.

After the show, a comedian takes the stage. Abe asks Midge if she’s as funny as him, and she says yes. I knew he’d warm to the idea of her as a comedienne.

Next. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: Season 2 will bring changes and romances. dark

The show and Catskills vacation end with Joel and Midge dancing with each other on the dance floor. When Joel says, “It’s time we dance with someone else,” they change dance partners. Midge moves into Benjamin’s arms and Joel into a random resort woman’s arms. The scene is beautifully choreographed and reminds me of a ballet reminiscent of a Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire movie.

So, have Midge and Joel actually moved on? Is Abe really more upset about his son being in the CIA than his daughter being a potty-mouthed stand-up comic?
