Titans: 5 actors who could play Superboy on the DC Universe show

facebooktwitterreddit

Now that we know Superboy is set to make his debut on Titans next season, who could the showrunners cast in the role? We have some suggestions to help speed up the process.

Season one of DC Universe’s Titans ended with a teaser of fan-favorite character Superboy’s likely appearance in upcoming seasons of the show, alongside Superdog, Krypto. The showrunners cleverly kept the character in silhouette leading to conjecture about who could be cast in the role of Superman’s clone in the second season of the series.

As per comic books, Superboy is a genetic clone of Superman, albeit a younger version of him, created by villainous DC Comics organization, Cadmus. While there is no certainty that Cadmus will play a vital role in the upcoming season of Titans, Superboy, who takes the name Conner Kent, seems set to join the team in some capacity.

Now, the internet has erupted in speculation over Dylan Sprayberry likely being groomed for Superboy. Sprayberry played young Clark Kent/ Superman in Zack Snyder’s 2013 film, Man of Steel, and many fans believe he would be the perfect actor to step into the shoes of Conner. Sprayberry unwittingly fueled gossip when he posted a video of himself training in November, leading some to believe that he was getting in shape to play the superhero.

While the show’s executives have not confirmed any casting decisions yet, we at Show Snob would like to throw a few more names in the ring. In no particular order, here are our top five choices of actors who could play Superboy on Titans:

Rome Flynn attends the 2018 GQ Men Of The Year Party at Benedict Estate on December 6, 2018 in Beverly Hills, California.

Rome Flynn

He may not be a household name yet, but Rome has the makings of a star. He had a recurring role on long-running soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful and has most recently appeared alongside Viola Davis in How to Get Away with Murder as the charismatic and mysterious Gabriel Maddox. The majority of the characters could not keep their eyes off him and there’s a reason why!

Considering how often Rome posts images and videos of himself working out on Instagram, he will definitely have the physicality of Superboy down pat.

Rome was spectacular in the first half of HTGAWM’s fifth season and will feature prominently when the show returns, but if he can juggle his schedule correctly, he could probably fit in shooting Titans as well.

Tyler Posey attends the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards at The Forum on August 27, 2017 in Inglewood, California.

Tyler Posey

Like Sprayberry, Tyler is a fellow Teen Wolf alum. His turn as reluctant werewolf Scott McCall made him a favorite among the teenage target audience. But, instead of resting on his laurels, Tyler has been busier than ever since the show ended in 2017.

Tyler starred in Jane the Virgin, Scream: The TV Series, lent his voice to a couple of animated shows, including Marvel Rising, and toured with his band. He is set to appear in Now Apocalypse in 2019, but since that’s already in post-production, he could probably make the time to play Conner Kent. Also, it will be almost ironic that Tyler plays Superman’s ‘son’, considering his Teen Wolf mentor/rival Tyler Hoechlin plays the Man of Steel on The CW’s Supergirl!

Noah Centineo

Whoaa whoa whoa! How could Noah not be on this list? Undoubtedly, he was the heartthrob of 2018, what with his endearing performance in Netflix’s adaptation of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Noah’s been acting for a decade already, and he’s only 22.

At over six feet, Noah is tall enough to play the Kryptonian clone, though he may need to work on those muscles of his. But hey, no one said Superboy has to maintain the same muscle size as we saw in the season one teaser, so maybe he doesn’t need to work out that much. As long as there’s a six-pack of Yakult around, I don’t think any fans will be complaining.

Diego Tinoco attends the Netflix FYSee Kick Off Party at Raleigh Studios on May 6, 2018 in Los Angeles, California.

Diego Tinoco

Diego is an up and comer on screen, but he has talent in spades. As Cesar Diaz in On My Block, Diego brought pathos and fun all rolled into one in his character. Titans showrunner/executive producer Greg Walker told EW that he was keen for the show to continue being psychologically grounded, and who better to bring the gravity of Superboy’s circumstances alive than Diego?

There has been no release date announced for the second season of On My Block leaving Diego’s schedule wide open for a turn as a superhero. Though he may not look comic book accurate, Diego could add to the emotional heft of the show, which is where Titans exceeded expectations, especially during the second half of its debut season.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – DECEMBER 09: Ross Butler arrives to at The 16th Annual Unforgettable Gala held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on December 9, 2017 in Beverly Hills, California. (Photo by Christopher Polk/Getty Images)

Ross Butler

Whether as the original Reggie Mantle on Riverdale, or the unexpectedly tender Zach Dempsey in 13 Reason Why, Ross has quickly become a mainstay on our television screens. And with his quintessential jock physique, quirky sense of humor, and disarming smile, we see him fitting perfectly into the role of Conner Kent.

Though Ross is set to appear in Shazam!, the latest DC Comics film, there is no news on which part he is playing or how big the role is. If he isn’t contractually obligated to appear in multiple DCEU films, the possibility of a recurring role on Titans could be on the cards for this versatile actor.
