Batwoman: CW officially gives the Ruby Rose series a pilot order
Batwoman is officially sticking around in the Arrowverse.
It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that the CW has decided to give a pilot order to Ruby Rose’s Batwoman series. Hollywood Reporter officially broke the news, confirming what many fans considered a done deal.
The character of Kate Kane had her introduction to the Arrowverse in this year’s annual crossover event, Elseworlds. She was incredibly well received despite her short time in the episodes. While Ruby Rose took some heat over landing the lead role, both critics and viewers praised her take on the character when she finally hit the screen.
Hollywood Reporter also confirmed David Nutter would be directing the Batwoman pilot. He also directed both the pilots for Arrow and The Flash and won an Emmy for his work with Game of Thrones.
The announcement doesn’t reveal when Batwoman is expected to hit television. If the CW decides to air it in the fall, then it will probably join the five other series currently in the Arrowverse. However, it’s possible the network moves this to midseason or switches up their schedule. If Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning aren’t going to be used in the crossovers than they don’t need to air during the same time as the other series.
This is the first pilot order of 2019 for the CW. However, there have been ongoing rumors that the network is interested in bringing back a Superman based television show. The casting of Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane for Elseworlds seemed to hint the idea was on the table. While Tyler Hoechlin is slated to star in Netflix’s upcoming show, Another Life, it’s unclear if a Superman series could still happen.
