Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans are having a field day over the cast’s mini-reunion at Wizard World Portland.

At the Wizard World Portland convention last Sunday, there were enough people from the cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer present to throw fans into a frenzy and to proclaim the event a mini-reunion. The event was attended by series leads Alyson Hannigan (Willow), Amber Benson (Tara), James Marsters (Spike), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia), and Nicholas Brendon (Xander), along with series guest stars and Whedon regulars Julie Benz, Iyari Limon, Amy Acker, James Leary, Clare Kramer, and Alexis Denisof.

Noticeably absent were Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and series creator Joss Whedon – who was demonstrably disappointed he missed out on the love-fest. And it did seem like a love-fest, as the cast reveled in each other’s company and enthusiastically posted group photos and selfies.

Clare Kramer and Nicholas Brendon posted the bulk of the selfies and festivities to social media, gleefully making references to the show, their characters, and the plot. Brendon took a selfie with Charisma Carpenter and apologized for kissing Willow, promising “Xander & Cordy forever!” Kramer and Carpenter stole some “elevator kisses” from James Marsters, who looked rather pleased with himself. Joss Whedon responded to a lovely group photo by posting the cover of Mindy Kaling’s book “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?”

I think one of the things that makes Buffy the Vampire Slayer so iconic is the clear chemistry and camaraderie between the cast members and creative team. There’s nothing I love more than to learn that the people you love watching together on screen also love being together, on and off screen.

Shows like Supernatural definitely belong in that category, where maybe the show itself is more in the “guilty pleasure” category but is often so much more enjoyable because the cast and crew are like family and love what they do and with whom they do it. It is beautiful to see the emotional closeness of the relationships on screen – to which the viewers have an emotional attachment – be mirrored in real life.
