The Dragon Prince officially renewed for season 3!
The Dragon Prince is officially renewed!
Winner of two Kids Screen, The Dragon Prince, is set to return for a third season on Netflix. The announcement was made at WonderCon in Anaheim, California, and the official summary of the season was revealed as well:
"“Season 3 finds Rayla and Callum finally at the cusp of entering Xadia, while young Ezran returns home to take his place on the throne. Meanwhile, Lord Viren begins to realize the influence and power of his new ally – the mysterious startouch elf, Aaravos. As several storylines unfold in big ways, this season will be massively epic!”"
The last we saw the characters, Rayla and Callum had reached the border of Xadia and seemed to be confronted by Sol Regem, the archdragon of the sun. Not much is known about him yet, but what’s clear is that he might be another obstacle in getting Azymondias to the Dragon Queen. As for Ezran, he’d made the grave decision to return to Katolis upon learning of his father’s death, an act of responsibility he feels burdened to take up.
It will be interesting to see how Viren handles this, given how both Claudia and Soren had failed at the task they were handed to finish, but at the cost of Ezran (and Callum) possibly realizing that Viren’s up to no good. Which brings us to Viren’s arrest and his super shady new best friend, Aaravos, the Startouch elf. It will be interesting to see how the other kingdoms of the Pentarchy will handle.
The next season could potentially prove to be a game changer. It is, I think, inevitable that either Claudia or Soren will align themselves 100% with either Viren or Callum and Co. Currently, both of them are on the edge, having some doubt of their father and his intentions. Claudia has just crossed the line with her use of dark magic, albeit for Soren’s sake, so maybe that’s a foreshadowing of some sort.
Hopefully, the next season will tell us more about Aaravos and what his intentions are. I also hope we get some more insight into General Amaya’s life and her relationship with the boys, and Queen Sarai. Yet another unexplored arc so far is that of Callum’s biological father. Though there’s no news on whether that’s important to the story, a high possibility is that his father is Xadian, which would explain his newfound magical abilities.
What we can most definitely expect from the next season is that we see how the kingdoms of the Pentarchy deal with the havoc Viren wreaked on them with the help of Aaravos.
The new season officially has nine episodes, but no statement has been made with regard to its release date yet.
