On My Block season 2, episode 2 recap: Chapter Twelve

Mo money, mo problems is the name of the game in this episode of On My Block.

On My Block dives into Ruby’s loss of faith and Jamal’s misplaced money in this episode and makes for some interesting yet hilarious moments. After Olivia’s death, Ruby is less inclined to believe in a higher being or attend church for that matter. His mom would like him to channel his emotions there, but it’s something Ruby isn’t quite connecting with at the moment.

Wanting to get out of the house, Ruby originally plans on helping Jamal but ends up spending time with Oscar, which quite frankly had me feeling nervous. But it ends up being a good thing for Ruby who realizes he’s got it pretty great. He almost died but managed to make it out alive, and he has a family that loves and adores him. It’s not something everyone has, Oscar reminds him–and he’s right.

Ruby finds solace in learning that his mother struggled with faith once upon a time too. She walked away from it when it let her down, so he’s not alone in feeling the way he currently does. But she’s been through a lot in her life and has made it this far unharmed so going to church is a place she can express her gratitude.

After Jamal’s mom unknowingly donates his bag full of money to Goodwill, Jamal begins running around town to see if he can find it. It’s a bit unnerving to see a young man rummaging through Goodwill bins, but hey, it does have loads of money in it, so we get it.

But after finally finding the bag, Monse, and Ceaser ask to see this infamous stash of money but when they all start arguing over the bag, they capture the attention of a cop. Way to go, guys!

They’re brought into the station and tensions are at an all-time high over whether or not the officer will open the bag. It’s Jasmine to the rescue, however, who happens to be around training to be a cop, and knows how the group can find a way out of there. I don’t know about everyone else, but I think Jasmine is the real MVP of On My Block.

dark. Next. 5 TV shows coming in 2019 that we want to binge (and 5 we’re sad to see go)

Amidst all this, there is still the problem of where Ceaser will sleep. He refuses to go against Monty’s wishes and sleep in the house while he’s gone so he and Monse figure out something else. He’ll sleep in Monty’s car instead!

Tune in to find out what happens as the season progresses…

Will Ceaser be able to sleep in the car indefinitely? Will Jamal find a way to do something with all that money? And is Ruby going to join the Santos (not likely, but hey, you never know!)
