Avenue 5: Himesh Patel joins cast of HBO’s space comedy

Himesh has moved on from Yesterday and is heading straight into space into HBO’s upcoming comedy, Avenue 5.

Avenue 5 has officially roped in Himesh Patel of Yesterday and based on the little some of us have already seen of Patel, I’m certain he’s going to be amazing. So, what exactly is Avenue 5? Personally, when I read the description for the series, I was on board immediately. Created by Veep’s Armando Iannucci, this HBO comedy is about space tourism, according to Deadline. The timeline is about 40 years from now when all of mankind has finally looked to the stars and the galaxy beyond for a new place to live.

Patel will be playing the role of Jordan Hatwal who lives in this new future as a stand-up comedian. When he’s presented with an opportunity of a lifetime to join a luxury cruise around Saturn, he immediately agrees to join. I mean, who wouldn’t? A cruise around Saturn with Hugh Laurie as the Captain? Yes, please.

Of course, Jordan will face some dilemmas when the air starts running low and the jokes start running out, and that is where Avenue 5 will focus its plot and story on. Sounds pretty funny, right? And if you aren’t convinced just yet, take a look at who else will be joining the show.

  • Josh Gad
  • Zach Woods
  • Nikki Amuka-Bird
  • Rebecca Front
  • Lenora Crichlow
  • Suzy Nakamura
  • Ethan Phillips

Gad and Woods alone are enough to give Avenue 5 a shot, at least in my opinion anyway.

Avenue 5 promises to be quite the treat between its cast, plot, and creative team (which includes Will Smith, by the way!). I, for one, can’t wait to see what they come up with and considering it’s going to be on HBO, I know there won’t be any room for disappointment!
