Taco Chronicles (July 10)

While the love and popularity of the taco scene has reached epic trendiness in the last few years, who knew that tacos and the varieties thereof had a rich enough cultural history to make an entire series to explore it. But that’s exactly what Taco Chronicles sets out to do, as a docu-series that focuses on different varieties of tacos and their cultural and historical origins. There’s not much more information about the series, but the concept of it sounds interesting and topical. The only disappointment is that Netflix missed the perfect opportunity to release the series on the 9th instead of the 10th, which would have made it the most perfect Taco Tuesday.

Blown Away (July 12)

I usually have no interest in reality television, but this one has me intrigued. Rather than another artificially plotted show focused on third rate celebrities or trashy socialites, Blown Away explores the glass blowing industry and those who work in it. In partnership with the Corning Museum of Glass, Netflix brings us a reality competition series pitting 10 skilled glassblowers against each other to be assessed by a panel of expert judges.

The winner stands to gain a big cash prize and a special career opportunity. While the series doesn’t premiere until July 12, the pieces created by the contestants are already available to view at the Corning Museum of Glass, so if you happen to be in the area you can get a special sneak peek of the kind of work we can look forward to seeing during the competition.
