The Act

Premiered: March 20th, 2019

Where: Hulu

If you want to talk about an unbelievable true story, look no further than Hulu’s The Act starring Patricia Arquette and Joey King. The series is certainly the type you’d classify under “stranger-than-fiction true-crime” because it tells the story of an overprotective mother who fools her daughter (and everyone else) into believing she is riddled with illness. And let’s just say, as the truth comes out, the story gets weirder and eventually ends in murder and a conviction.

If this show doesn’t get recognition for anything else then the one thing I do think it has going for it are both Arquette and King. Their performances are absolutely amazing and the manner in which Arquette plays the mother and King plays the daughter who believes she really is sick is unlike anything I’ve seen before. I think they both deserve to be acknowledged for their acting (ha, get it), and if the show has any chance against the rest, it will be because of these two.
