Veronica Mars character refresher: Who’s returning to Neptune for the revival?

Richard Casablancas
Another surprising return is Richard Casablancas, the smarmy “businessman” and father of Dick. Veronica discovered in high school that the successful Casablancas real estate empire was all a sham since Richard was conning his investors. She turns him into the SEC but Richard is able to escape via a helicopter and get out of the country.
He returns after being tired of running and only gets one year in jail. However, Richard does attempt to pick up the pieces of his family before he gets sent away. Naturally, things don’t run that smoothly since Dick is still mourning over the suicide of his brother Cassidy. He blames his father for what happened but the two seem to make up. Richard is bound to play a serious role in the revival since JK Simmons will be playing a former ex-con turned fixer for the Casablancas family. If Clarence Wiedman taught us anything, it’s never underestimate a wealthy family with a good fixer.

Tim Foyle
Veronica has made a lot of enemies throughout her time as a private eye which means they’re bound to pop up again now that she’s back in Neptune. Tim Foyle was the teaching assistant for her favorite Hearst professor, Hank Landry, who was incredibly jealous of her skills. On the first day of criminology class, Veronica embarrasses Foyle by obliterating his record time for solving a mystery and making a remark about what he could’ve done with all of the extra time.
When Landry asks to be Veronica’s mentor, Foyle seems to swoop in with some bad news. He claims Veronica’s plagiarized her paper and she quickly proves her innocence but accuses Foyle of posting it online. He refuses to admit it but says hypothetically if he did, it was so she could go to the hotel during one of Landry’s trysts to see he’s not a nice guy.
The Hearst college dean, Cyrus O’Dell, was murdered by a seemingly open and shut case against Landry. However, Veronica deduces that Foyle was the true murderer and he did so to frame his former mentor. Basically, there’s a lot of bad blood between these two that’s bound to come up in the revival.
