A Teacher gets the green light from FX and finds its male lead.

Based on the 2013 movie of the same name, FX’s limited series A Teacher is officially a go at the network. Deadline reported the new show has also added Nick Robinson as the co-lead alongside the already cast Kate Mara.

Hannah Fiddell, the creative force behind the film, is back for the television series and is tasked with writing, directing, and producing the adaptation. It won’t come as a big surprise since she handled those three roles for the movie as well but impressive nonetheless.

A Teacher revolves around Claire (played by Mara), a popular teacher in a Texas high school, who is arrested for an affair with one of her students. The student in question is Eric (played by Robinson), who is described as an “All-American senior”. Like the movie, the show will attempt to tackle complexities of such an affair and how it effects the two as well as the people around them.

Robinson was most recently seen in the HBO film, Native Son, and more famously known for his leading role in Love, Simon. Mara has an impressive film resume as well with credits like Megan LeaveyChappaquiddick, and Morgan. She also had an Emmy nominated supporting role in Netflix’s House of Cards.

There is no word yet when A Teacher is expected to start its ten episode limited run. However the series has been in development for the past year with FX. The movie currently has a 35% rating on Rotten Tomatoes however with the extended time to tell the story in a television format, the story will be able to explore the complex but ultimately illegal relationship rather than just diving straight into it.
