AMC dropped a concept trailer for another spin-off to The Walking Dead. The untitled show is set to premiere in Spring 2020. We’ve got the early details!

The Walking Dead Universe continues to grow. There’s the flagship show, which will enter its tenth season this Fall. Fear the Walking Dead is currently in its fifth season. There will be three Rick Grimes movies in the future. And now, per a report from Deadline, there will be a fourth addition to The Walking Dead Universe that will premiere in the Spring of 2020. It remains untitled, but AMC has dropped what equates to a proof of concept trailer for the show.

The trailer opens up with simple storyboard pictures of the young adult characters that quickly morph into the talking heads of their live actors. The message is simple: a whole lot of stuff has gone down during the Apocalypse and you’ve only seen a small part of it. There are brief glimpses at multiple other backdrops, including one in a rainy backdrop with bright purple lights. It reminded me of the Ronin storyline from Avengers: Endgame.

And I don’t think that’s completely a coincidence. AMC has a ratings juggernaut in The Walking Dead. Fear the Walking Dead has been a solid enough performer. Why not try to grow the brand? The revenue from such shows will help pay for smaller shows like Better Call Saul and The Little Drummer Girl. And I think AMC is building this universe the right way. With two franchises and well-known characters, AMC is mimicking the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Establish the world and its functions first. Then branch out to stories and team-ups.

The new untitled show, which looks to target the Young Adult crowd, will star Nicolas Cantu (The Amazing World of Gumball), Aliyah Royale (The Red Line), Hal Cumpston (Bilched), and Alexa Mansour (The Resident). The show was created by The Walking Dead’s version of Kevin Feige, Scott Gimple and series writer/ producer Matt Negrete. Show running duties will be handled by Negrete. It appears that all episodes will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island).
