At the bunkhouse, Rip gets a call from Beth who asks him to come to her. He meets her on the roof of the main house. They drink and watch the stars. She asks him to take her on a date with dinner. Rip tells her he doesn’t know what she really wants but he knows it’s not a date.

Beth assures him it’s not a test. She just wants a date. They have a cute back and forth. Finally, she insists on knowing what he spends his money on. He informs her he spent tens of thousands of dollars on his mother’s and little brother’s tall, fancy headstones. He also got a gravedigger to dig up his abusive father’s bones, which he then tossed out the window on a long drive to North Dakota.

Beth talks about heaven and hell and her belief that God is the land. Rip looks at her lovingly but she tells him not to put it into words. At least not until it saves her. Rip agrees and they kiss.

Now that Monica and Tate have moved back in with Kayce, John gives them his suite of rooms in the main house. John moves into another house on the property. It’s where his deceased son Lee used to live. Everything’s exactly the way Lee left it. John looks at a picture of the two of them together and tears up.

Later, Jamie is baling hay when John drives up with Tate’s new horse. They watch him run around the paddock. Tate decides to name him Lucky.

That night at Beth’s office two masked men come in. They attack her assistant, Jason, and then go for Beth. Beth calls them names and grabs a letter opener. She stabs one of the men in the shoulder and the other in the leg but they still get the upper hand and beat her up.

They tie up Beth and aim a gun at Jason’s head. He whimpers in fear as she demands he look at her. She encourages him not to give them the satisfaction of seeing him scared. The man holding the gun on Jason lowers his weapon and pats him on the head. He says they don’t care if Jason’s scared. They’re there to scare Beth. She wishes him luck. He shoots and kills Jason. Beth curses him out.

His partner, the one Beth stabbed in the shoulder, is fading. Beth expressed her hope that he bleeds out. The other man says he was told she had a mouth on her and that he should shut it or fill it. Beth responds caustically and he pistol whips her.

He seems to be preparing to rape her. Beth continues to insult him so he takes a different tack. He holds his gun under her chin and threatens her again. Rip, who somehow discovered what’s going on, enters right at that moment. The masked man shoots at him but Rip keeps coming. He kills the man and goes to Beth. She finally lets herself be scared.

Rip calls John and asks him to send a discrete doctor. Beth beats the man’s body. She’s still fighting. Rip stops her and tells her he loves her. She collapses in tears.

Later, John, Kayce, and the doctor are with Beth and Rip at Beth’s office. The doctor doesn’t know how they keep the incident hidden but John assures him it will stay that way. A couple of ranch hands help Rip to his feet so he can go to the doctor’s office for further treatment. Beth goes with them.

After they leave, Kayce tells John it wasn’t a crime. John counters that he knows what it was. Kayce says he’ll take care of it.

Kayce comes home to Monica and she asks him where he’s been. Kayce lies and tells her there are werewolves by the barn.

The next day, Malcolm Beck is just waking up when he notices something. On his porch are the bodies of the men who attacked Beth with a note: “Return to sender.”

At Yellowstone, Kayce joins John by the main house. John wants to know if Monica had any issues with the previous night. Kayce confesses that he lied to her. John asks if she believed him. Kayce claims she did. John laughs and tells Kayce he has a lot to learn about women.

Kayce wants to know what they’re going to do about the Becks. John informs him they’re going to kill them. As if there was any doubt…
