Raising Dion: Netflix sets premiere date & releases first-look photos for new sci-fi drama
Netflix officially sets a fall premiere date for its highly-anticipated new sci-fi series, Raising Dion.
It’s been a year since Raising Dion received its straight-to-series order and Netflix has finally unveiled the first look at the upcoming show. Deadline reports the first season will hit the streaming service on October 4 along with a handful of first-look images.
Raising Dion follows widowed mother Nicole (Alisha Wainwright) who is forced to adapt when her son Dion (Ja’Siah Young) develops supernatural abilities. It’s hard enough to grieve the death of her husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan), and become a single parent but now she’s tasked with raising a child with extraordinary talents. Unfortunately, people will be coming for Dion and his gifts which has Nicole passionately protecting her son alongside Mark’s best friend, Pat (Jason Ritter).
The character breakdowns reveal that Nicole will struggle with her schedule and the new danger which threatens her son. However, she’s also a bit of a dreamer and hopefully, her creativity will give her an edge over the antagonists.

Meanwhile, Dion is described as “precocious” and a cute eight-year-old boy. Unsurprisingly, he has a love for all things superheroes which is bound to come in handy when his powers develop. Of course, he’ll have difficulty balancing his abilities alongside the pressure of moving to a new school and the recent death of his father.
Ritter’s Pat sounds like he will come in handy to the team since he has a deep affinity for comic books and science. While he’s described as “awkward” to others, his kindness can win over anyone. After his best friend’s death, he makes it his mission to step up for Nicole and Dion who he considers his family.
Finally, the remaining characters on Raising Dion are Nicole’s sister, Kat Neese (Jazmyn Simon) and Esperanza Jimenez (Sammi Hanney). Like most siblings, Kat’s relationship with Nicole is complicated. She’s a put-together surgical resident who loves her sister but has trouble watching her make countless mistakes. Esperanza is Dion’s artistically-inclined classmate who becomes his best friend.
The series is based on a comic of the same name by Dennis Liu, who serves as one of the executive producers on the project. Carol Barbee (Touch) serves as the showrunner and another executive producer alongside Michael B. Jordan, Kenny Goodman, Kim Roth, Michael Green, and MACRO.
All nine episodes will be available to stream on October 4.
