D23 Expo: The Muppets are returning to Disney+!
Disney confirms The Muppets are heading to the streaming world at D23!
It seems like it’s been a while since The Muppets graced our screens but that’s all about to change. Disney confirmed at their D23 expo that the beloved puppets would be making a comeback on their streaming service. Deadline reports the new series will be an “unscripted” short form format and titled Muppets Now.
Essentially the new show will be reminscent of the original The Muppet Show. It will feature a different celebrity guest, like the classic, and will be considered a variety series. We already can’t wait to see some of these skits!
Disney has made many attempts to try and bring The Muppets back to television, with multiple screenwriters giving it their best try. In fact, Muppets Live Another Day, received a pilot order back in February.
However, the new series is said to pick up after the live-action movie, The Muppet Movie. Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the other notorious members are now packing up to move their hijinks elsewhere. Disney+ confirmed in their announcement that the new show will be filled with laughter and fun for everyone to watch.
While the news came out of the D23 expo, Kermit the Frog also had his own statement released on Twitter.
Muppets Now isn’t expected to officially launch until sometime in 2020. As production begins, we are bound to hear more news about what the series will look like.
