Starz ordered a pilot for Shining Vale, a horror comedy blending themes of depression and possession with humor.

According to Deadline, Starz will launch a pilot for Shining Vale, which means it has not yet been developed as a full season.  However, fans of the series Divorce may be interested, as Sharon Horgan is involved. That HBO series lasted for 3 seasons and starred Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church. Shining Vale is co-created with Jeff Astrof, known for the successful NBC crime mockumentary-sitcom Trial and Error, starring Nicholas D’Agosto, Jayma Mays, Steven Boyer, and Sherri Shepherd.

Shining Vale could been described as a mixed bag of horror elements. Based on the description offered by Deadline, it seems to have themes of atrocity, hauntings, demon possession and mental illness. It may be interesting to see how these elements are blended together in a humorous way.

Few concrete story elements are known, and no details from the cast have been revealed. However, it will be produced by Other Shoe Productions (which also produced Trial & Error), Merman (Divorce) and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment (Divorce and Santa Clarita Diet).

Sharon Horgan was nominated for an Emmy for the pilot episode of Catastrophe, which she co-wrote with Rob Delaney.  In fact, Catastrophe did win her  six Irish Film and Television Awards for acting and writing.  Horgan also voices Queen Dagmar in Matt Groening’s animated series Disenchantment, whose second half of season one shall return on Friday, Sept. 20, 2019.
