The much-anticipated spin-off to the growing Fox drama 9-1-1 has landed a big star in Jim Parrack.

Jim Parrack is going from fighting vampires to stopping crime in the capital of Texas in the 9-1-1 universe.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Parrack has signed on to join the cast of 9-1-1: Lone Star, the spinoff to the Fox drama. Parrack is the third major star to join the cast, following the announcement of Rob Lowe and Liv Tyler.

Parrack will play the role of Judd Ryder, a seasoned Texas firefighter who has seen his fair share of tragedy. Being a native Texan, Judd becomes suspicious of Capt. Owen Strand (Lowe), who transferred to the Austin Fire Department from the New York City Fire Department. Judd will also a wife in the series, Grace Ryder, and 9-1-1 operator in Austin. Grace has yet to be cast.

The original 9-1-1 has grown to become one of Fox’s biggest hits, and series creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuck and Tim Minear envisioned the series as being a series that could spin off into multiple series. Normally, shows as 9-1-1 would go to New York or Miami, but it’s also not unusual for the series creators to go into Austin.

Texas’ capital city has long been a hotbed of television and movie production, and the city is growing to become a nice backdrop for new TV shows who are looking to move the setting from the traditional cities of L.A., New York, and Miami.

9-1-1: Lone Star could bring a distinct new dynamic to the procedural drama, and we can’t wait for the midseason drama to premiere on Fox.
