Arrowverse: Erica Durance set to reprise her Smallville role as Lois Lane

Could the Arrowverse crossover event, ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ get any bigger? Erica Durance is now set to join the event as Lois Lane.

Smallville fans were ecstatic when it was confirmed earlier this week that Tom Welling would be reprising his role as Clark Kent/ Superman during the epic Arrowverse crossover event ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’. The announcement set the cat among the pigeons, with many wondering if any other Smallville characters will be joining Welling in the crossover. Now Deadline reports that Erica Durance, who currently stars as a recurring character on Supergirl as Kara Zor-El’s mother, Alura, will also appear in the crossover. Durance will be revisiting her adored version of Lois Lane, reporter extraordinaire and Kent’s partner.

It’s been almost ten years since Smallville graced television screens, and the crossover will reveal how the characters have fared since we last saw them. The news has been met with excitement across the board, which is understandable considering how beloved Smallville is. The show remains the rare comic book series to last over a decade, and many feel it is the foundation for the current crop of successful superhero series, including the Arrowverse.

While viewers are already aware that multiple versions of Superman will feature in the 5-episode event – Tyler Hoechlin plays the current Superman on Supergirl, while DC’s Legends of Tomorrow star, Brandon Routh, will don the iconic cape for the first time since Superman Returns – there is no news on whether Durance’s Lois will meet Arrowverse’s Lois, played by Elizabeth Tulloch. Other Lois Lanes and Supermans have also appeared in Arrowverse shows, including Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain of Lois and Clark fame, and one can’t help but hope that they will appear in the crossover as well.

‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ promises to be a spectacular homage to the original DC Comics event, while also paying tribute to the shows on The CW. The mega-event comprises all the five shows in the Arrowverse, including new entrant Batwoman, starring Ruby Rose. ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ will air in December 2019.
