Marvel’s Ghost Rider: Hulu no longer developing Gabriel Luna show

Due to creative issues, Hulu has announced that it will not be moving forward with the highly anticipated live-action Ghost Rider series.

Bad news for Ghost Rider fans. After announcing the return of Gabriel Luna’s Robbie Reyes in a live-action series on Hulu earlier this year, latest reports state that Hulu will not be moving forward to develop the show. The cancellation of Marvel’s Ghost Rider is due to creative differences, according to several news outlets.

It appears that Marvel’s Ghost Rider is the only casualty of this ‘creative impasse’ as the rest of Hulu’s scheduled Marvel shows are still on track to be produced. Several of Marvel’s television shows have been abruptly canceled over the past year. All the Netflix shows have seen their demise, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will also be ending next year. Hulu’s Marvel properties, however, have been going strong, with Marvel’s Runaways renewed for a new season, and a host of new shows slated to be developed over the next year, including Helstrom and animated series M.O.D.O.K, Hit-Monkey, Tigra & Dazzler Show and Howard the Duck.

Marvel’s Ghost Rider would have seen Luna reprise his role from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4. The character of Reyes quickly became a fan-favorite before being ousted from the show due to budgetary constraints. It was deemed far too expensive to shoot the transformation of Reyes into Ghost Rider, and the character spent the majority of the season trapped in another dimension. There have been no updates on whether Ghost Rider will feature on any other show, or if the character will be absorbed by Disney’s own streaming platform, Disney Plus.

This is the second instance of differences with Marvel leading to a loss of a character or show this year. Sometime after the release of the hugely successful Spider-Man: Far From Home, Sony announced that it was distancing itself from Marvel and taking the character of Spider-Man with them. Thankfully Marvel still has the rights to Ghost Rider, so one can only hope that the hero from hell will rise once again.
