Emergence has only just begun but a love triangle could soon come in to play.

At its heart, ABC’s freshman series is a mystery. However, Emergence has plenty of drama outside of the central premise. A love triangle is brewing between Jo (Allison Tolman), her ex-husband Alex (Donald Faison), and mysterious reporter Benny (Owain Yeoman). At New York Comic-Con, the cast spoke about the tension between the three and a potential ship name was created.

Tolman talked a bit about the remaining love between Jo and Alex. Right now, the two are back under the same roof and share a daughter together. They’ll never entirely be out of each other’s lives which could lead to a reconciliation. On the other hand, she also said the more time that Jo spends with Benny, a little flirting could happen there. Nothing brings two people together more than fighting against a shadowy corporation while trying to protect a little girl.

"“Obviously there’s still some love and there’s still some tension between these two exes. And as Jo spends more and more time with Benny, just in the course of this investigation that they’re doing together, I will say I think some jealousy comes into play.”"

Meanwhile, Faison played his cards a little closer to his chest. When asked whether or not Alex might try to win Jo back he simply said:

"“You know, we’ll see.”"

His ominous answer seems to imply that Alex will most likely make an effort even if it’s not successful. Of course, Emergence wouldn’t want to just spill all of the secrets when the season has only just begun.

Finally, Alexa Swinton (who plays Piper) made it clear which couple she is rooting for. When the topic came up, she excitedly announced that she wants “Jolex” to happen. While the ship name doesn’t seem set in stone, it’s fun to see the cast begin to take sides.
