Space Force: Netflix comedy adds 3 more cast members
By Luke Lucas
Space Force is currently in production on its first season. The Netflix comedy just added 3 actors to its already stellar cast. We’ve got the details!
Per a Deadline exclusive, Space Force has added Fred Willard (Best In Show), Jessica St. Clair (American Housewife), and Noah Emmerich (The Americans). The new Netflix workplace comedy is centered around the construction of a military base for the very real Space Force that was proposed by the Department of Defense earlier this year. The show is created by Office alums Greg Daniels and Steve Carell. Carell is set to star as General Mark R. Naird, who is the commander of Space Force.
Willard will play Naird’s father, Fred. He has his wits, but his body is failing him. Fred’s deteriorating physical condition and his wife’s own health problems start to wear on him. He starts to make risky and bad decisions, like starting a home improvement project beneath his home.
St. Clair plays civilian contractor, Kelly King. She’s there to help Naird construct the Space Force base and get it off its feet.
Emmerich plays Naird’s old boss and current Air Force Chief of Staff Kick Grabaston. He hates that Naird is in charge of Space Force. Grabaston takes every opportunity to undermine and chide Naird, which sounds exactly on par for the new and sad version of the ‘team of rivals’ concept.
Willard, St. Clair, join Carell and a cast that already includes John Malkovich (Billions), Diana Silvers (Booksmart), Tawny Newsome (Brockmire), Ben Schwartz (House of Lies), Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley), Don Lake (Zootopia), and Alex Sparrow (Unreal). you can read all about their roles here.
I’m looking forward to Space Force. I expect a lot of the same feel and camera moves that we saw in the Office. But Carell’s Naird seems to be a much more fleshed out and sympathetic character than Michael Scott ever was. I imagine there will be a lot of hilarious existential dread. Many kids grow up and dream of being an astronaut. The promise of adventure is exciting. Now, one of those kids, General Naird, gets to build a base that will militarize space and kill all that fun. It’s going to be great!
