Could there actually be a Friends reunion?

Apparently “The One Where Everyone Reunites” might actually become a real episode because a Friends reunion special is in the works! According to Deadline, HBO Max is currently working on getting the cast back together for a full reunion.

The reunion is only in the very early planning stages, especially since the cast has yet to sign any official deals. If it will only be one episode or more is also unclear. However, if HBO Max can get the cast on board, then the planning process around scheduling will begin. It’s unclear what everyone’s availability will be but Jennifer Aniston’s new Apple series will probably pose a bit of a problem with filming.

Aniston recently joined Instagram with a group selfie alongside her Friends castmates. The picture helped her earn a Guinness World Record for earning a million Instagram followers in the shortest amount of time. On the Ellen DeGeneres Show, she also teased a possible reunion or project of some kind with the rest of the cast.

"“I would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”"

However, Friends co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane shot down the idea of a revival earlier this year. Kauffman said this on top of saying a reboot is “not going to beat what we did”:

"“We will not be doing a reunion show, we will not be doing a reboot. The show was about that time in life when friends are your family.”"

Meanwhile, Crane shared the same sentiment:

"“We did the show we wanted to do. We got it right, and we put a bow on it.”"

HBO Max recently purchased the rights to Friends reruns for 425 million dollars, a pretty hefty price for one of Netflix’s most popular streaming shows. If they manage to get a reunion, there will undoubtedly be a handful of subscribers who will be desperate to see the cast back together again.
