Doctor Who season 12 to return on New Year’s Day 2020

Doctor Who will return on New Year’s Day 2020 for its 12th season!

Doctor Who finally has a season 12 premiere date, Whovians! And not just that, we’ve got ourselves a new trailer to go along with the announcement, according to Deadline. What a wonderful way to kick of the week isn’t it?!

After taking a peek at the trailer, I’m certain that we’re in for one hell of a season come January. Did anyone catch a glimpse of the Cybermen? I’m pretty sure they look scarier than usual–as if they weren’t sinister enough already.

Season 12 will kick off with a two-part special, “Spyfall”. Showrunner Chris Chibnall stated in an interview with RadioTimes.com that we can expect multi-part episodes for this season instead of standalone stories. We haven’t really seen episodes done that way since the early days of Doctor Who. It’ll be a welcome change to follow a story for more than one episode!

If you thought that was all the good news we had for you regarding Doctor Who then brace yourself! The second episode of season 12 will be simulcasted across 600 theatres in the U.S. thanks to a partnership with BBC America and BBC Studios. I know where I’ll be watching episode 2!

Season 12 brings the return of the first female Doctor ever, Jodie Whittaker, along with her companions that we’ve come to love and adore. I never thought I’d love a group of companions but these guys have really grown on me and I can’t wait to see what they get up to in the next season.

Side note: If you’re in the New York City area, Whittaker, and her co-stars Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill will be partaking in a Q & A session following the episode 2 screening.

We have less than a month left, Whovians until season 12–are you as excited as I am?!

Doctor Who season 12 premieres on Jan. 1st, 2020. Will you be watching?
