Big Shot: Jessalyn Gilsig cast in Disney+ series with John Stamos
Big Shot finds its female lead with Jessalyn Gilsig.
The upcoming Disney+ original series, Big Shot, has made a surprise recasting. Deadline reports that Jessalyn Gilsig will be taking over the female lead on the John Stamos fronted series from Shiri Appleby, who was cast in October.
The series revolves around Stamos’ character, a college basketball coach who’s temper winds up getting the better of him. When he’s fired from his job, he’s forced to start fresh at an all-girls high school as a teacher and a coach.
Gilsig will be playing Holly, the assistant basketball coach at the school. She’s described as “good-humored and down-to-earth“, or the exact opposite of Stamos’ character. According to the report, Holly was originally supposed to be a younger character but evolved as the show’s creation went on. Instead, Disney+ was looking for an actress closer to Stamos’ age who could play a potential love interest as the show went on.
Jessalyn Gilsig is well known for her series regular role on the show Vikings, as well as her appearances on Glee and Nip/Tuck. Joining the show also marks a reunion of sorts since she worked with David E. Kelley, who is writing and executive producing the Disney+ series, in the past on Boston Public.
There is currently no release date for Big Shot but check back here for more casting updates as production continues.
