Amazon Prime releases Super Bowl promo spot for Hunters as marketing for the upcoming series ramps up.

Amazon Prime’s highly-anticipated action thriller Hunters revs up its marketing ahead of it’s February 21 release with a prominent Super Bowl promo spot. The Nazi-hunting series – created by Mark Weil, produced by Jordan Peele, and starring Al Pacino – follows a diverse band of Nazi hunters in 1970s New York City as they track down undercover Nazis and put a stop to their plans to create a Fourth Reich in the United States. Meanwhile, the vigilantes come under scrutiny from the official authorities.

The 60 second Super Bowl spot marks a big marketing push from Amazon for the upcoming series, implying that the streaming service has high hopes for the show. The promo begins like any all-American beer ad made for the Super Bowl, set at a sunny backyard barbecue and a voiceover setting the scene, saying, “The coals are hot, the drinks are cold. It’s another all-American barbecue.” The idyllic scene is broken when a woman begins shaking, drops the pie she’s holding, points and begins yelling, “Nazi! Nazi!” The man she’s accusing looks angry, annoyed, and kind of evil.

Cut to Al Pacino telling the police detective that the conspiracy is bigger than anyone realizes. The Nazis are among them, they’re communicating, and they have plans to attack. The rest of the promo continues to set a sinister and violent tone and both the Hunters and the police use their own methods to uncover the truth. Al Pacino makes his mission clear, saying “We must send a message: Never again.”

Every new promo Amazon releases for Hunters makes this series look even better. While the premise is almost humorous in how over-the-top it sounds and the action looks awesomely fun, the trailers promise something darker, more thoughtful, and terrifyingly timely. While we’re obviously against the Nazis, the violence perpetrated by the Hunters against them is also morally reprehensible and disconcerting. The promos refuse to allow the audience to take pleasure in any of the violence committed, so it seems the series is more than a simple revenge plot.

Hunters is released on February 21 on Amazon Prime.
