One Piece: Netflix orders live action adaptation based on popular manga

One Piece is the next manga adaptation heading to Netflix.

One of the most popular manga series will be hitting television screens with a live-action adaptation. Deadline reports that Netflix has ordered One Piece to series, adding it to the growing list of buzzy upcoming titles.

Tomorrow Studios and Shueisha (the publisher of One Piece) are developing the series together for the streaming service. This should come as good news for fans, because Tomorrow Studios is already in charge of the Cowboy Bebop adaptation heading to Netflix as well.

The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy as well as his crew of pirates as they travel the world in search of the ultimate treasure. Apparently, they’re looking for an infamous “One Piece” which will allow Luffy to become the next Pirate King. Unfortunately, they’ll have a lot of places to cover as this world is full of exotic islands and oceans to explore.

Steve Maeda is expected to serve as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer on the project. Matt Owens is also set to be a writer and an executive producer on the upcoming series.

Currently, there is no timeline for when the series will be released. With the Cowboy Bebop series delayed, it will be interesting to see if this show is fast-tracked while John Cho recovers from his injuries.
