Vegas High: West Duchovny joins HBO Max’s 90s set pilot
A new face is heading to Vegas High!
According to Deadline, West Duchovny has joined the upcoming HBO Max pilot, Vegas High. She is set to costar alongside the already cast Jordana Spiro (Ozark) and Josh Andrés Rivera (who will be in the upcoming West Side Story film) in the pilot.
Vegas High is supposed to be a coming-of-age drama set in the 1990s. It centers around a girl named Laura, who finds herself struggling to find herself amidst the fun energy of Las Vegas and her Mormon faith.
Laura is yet to be cast, however, Spiro will play the character’s mother, Diane. It sounds like Diane might not be very fond of her daughter experimenting outside of her faith since her character is supposed to be the “perfect Mormon housewife”. Meanwhile, Andrés Rivera will play Laura’s brother, who is described as “reckless and charismatic”.
West Duchovny is set to take on the role of Paige in Vegas High. She’s the president of the Mormon Church’s “Young Women” organization however it’s unclear yet if Laura is a part of the group as well. Paige, along with the rest of the club, apparently believe in “wholesome values” which seems to go against the idea of Vegas.
The pilot is written by Sarah-Raquel Jimenez and is based on her actual experience growing up. Gillian Robespierre (the writer, director, and producer of the critically acclaimed Obvious Child) is set to direct the pilot.
