Viola Davis to star as Michelle Obama in Showtime’s First Ladies

Viola Davis is about to channel her inner Michelle Obama!
Viola Davis is going to play Michelle Obama, folks! How exciting is that?! According to Deadline, Showtime has given a straight-to-series order to First Ladies. Along with playing Michelle Obama, Davis will be executive producing the series (the excitement continues!).
The series will take place in the East Wing of the White House, a part of this monumental establishment that we seldom hear about. Yet, many, many decisions and groundbreaking moments take place here. I’m super excited to see what kinds of stories they come up with there, especially with Viola Davis taking on such a big role with it.
It this in the East Wing that the First Ladies do their work, and it’s what this Showtime series hopes to shed light on. Along with Michelle Obama, the first season will also focus on Eleanor Roosevelt and Betty Ford. It’s unclear how the series will tackle multiple storylines, but I’m here for whatever they have in store for us.
Showtime is no stranger to the political world with shows like Homeland under their belt. First Ladies is the perfect fit for the network, and I don’t think it belongs anywhere else.

Based on what we know so far, First Ladies will give us a unique perspective into the Presidency. Rather than focus on the Commanders-in-Chief, we will be looking at their female counterparts to learn more about this world.
