Altered Carbon: Season Two – February 27

This is the Netflix February release that I am most excited about. The style of storytelling and the aesthetic of the series is right in my wheelhouse of sci-fi, right in that neo-noir/sci-fi dystopia sweet spot occupied by the likes of Blade Runner and, honestly, not much else. Season one had me enthralled immediately with everything from the story, the socio-economic and political culture of the setting, the advances in technology, and the changes in social constructs and perceived morality.

There was also Joel Kinnaman, who I studied for episodes before realizing he was the same sweaty string bean I grew to love on The Killing. Season two may not have Joel Kinnaman, but the beauty of the story is that Takeshi Kovacs can literally be played by anyone and this season has graced us with Anthony Mackie. The official teaser doesn’t give away much, but we do get a good look at Mackie, looking smooth as hell and badass as always, warning himself not to chase after ghosts or else risk becoming one. Our favorite AI sidekick Poe will also be back for season two, which is all I ever really wanted, so I’m already happy.
