Killing Eve sets its season 3 premiere and drops first look photos. Is Eve back with MI6? Is Villanelle with Konstantin? Is Niko in jail? We’ve got details!
Break-ups are hard. Especially when you aren’t really dating the other person, but your emotional and psychic connections are so strong that it’s hard to imagine an existence with them. Those break-ups feel like betrayals even if you’re the one doing the breaking-up. It’s like a knife in your back. Or, in the case of Eve (Sandra Oh), it feels like the bullet shot into her back by Villanelle (Jodie Comer) at the end of season two of Killing Eve. The two had narrowly escaped death in Rome. Villanelle wanted Eve to go away with her and start a life together. Eve said no and tried to walk away. But, Villanelle repaid the stab wound she received at the end of season one by shooting Eve in the back.
Eve survives. How Eve and Villanelle will exist without each other will be one of the central themes of season 3, per an earlier report from Deadline. We know they are eventually drawn back together by a tragedy, but now we get to see images of the characters post-Rome.
The Killing Eve Instagram account posted a quick video wishing everyone a happy V Day for Saint Valentine’s Day. But, it also included the news that season three would premiere on Sunday, April 26 on AMC and BBC America. The Killing Eve Instagram also released some first look photos from season three. If you have an Instagram account, you may view them here.
Entertainment Weekly has a break down of the photos with some cast input. Eve has sworn off of MI6 and has become a chef that has a gift for making dumplings and is surgical with a meat cleaver. There’s a great shot of Niko Owen McDonnell) looking up at the sky and taking a deep, refreshing breath. The last time we saw him, Niko was restrained in a storage unit face to face with his murdered girlfriend, Gemma (Emma Pierson). Villanelle killed her. But, it wasn’t clear if she wanted to torture Niko into leaving Eve or if she was simply framing him for murder. So this is either a flashback to happier times for Niko or he’s finally free of Eve and Villanelle.
Meanwhile, Villanelle is on her own in Barcelona making her way in the assassin’s world. The lone wolf life doesn’t appear to have hurt her wardrobe. And she still has a flair for costumes. There’s a picture of her as a full blow clown with a color palette that makes me think of one of those big swirly lollipops. Villanelle seems to have an assistant. Felix (Stefan Iancu) may be helping her on his own or may be under duress.
Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) appears to approach Eve for help at some point. I’m worried that she’s there to ask for help on the behalf of Konstantin (Kim Bodnia). The Entertainment Weekly article confirms that his daughter, Irina (Yuli Lagodinsky), is alive. I’ve been worried that the tragedy that brings Eve and Villanelle back together might involve Irina. If she or her father are harmed, the resulting revenge mission would be bittersweet, but awesome. We shall have to wait and see how this all plays out when Killing Eve returns to AMC and BBC America on April 26.
