Painkiller is heading to Netflix!

The streaming service has ordered another limited series to its already compelling lineup. Deadline reports, Painkiller is officially heading to Netflix from creator, Eric Newman.

Newman, the creator of Netflix’s popular series Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, already gives the show a lot of clout. Netflix has also snagged Peter Berg (The Leftovers and Friday Night Lights) to serve as the director for the eight episodes. Meanwhile, Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster are set to write the show.

Fitzerman-Blue, Harpster, and Newman will also serve as executive producers on the show. Alex Gibney (Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief) is also on board as an executive producer.

According to Deadline, Painkiller is inspired by “The Family that Built an Empire of Pain” by Patrick Radden Keefe, an article from The New Yorker and the Barry Meier novel, Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic. Both authors will also serve as consultants on the limited series. Netflix has promised the show will provide an in-depth and “powerful look” at the opioid crisis currently plaguing America.

There is no set premiere date for the series yet but hopefully, the eight episodes will debut sometime in 2020. In the meantime, Newman’s other show Narcos: Mexico just launched its second season earlier this month and there is currently no word on whether it will be renewed.
