Netflix’s Locke & Key featured a number of magical keys. What was their purpose and how did they work? We break it down here.

The long-awaited adaptation of the Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez graphic novel series, Locke & Key was full of fantastical and supernatural elements. Of those aspects, the magical keys of Locke & Key were nothing short of fascinating. Discovered by the Locke children, Bode, Tyler and Kinsey Locke (played by Jackson Robert Scott, Connor Jessup, and Emilia Jones, respectively), the keys of Keyhouse give the user myriad powers and abilities. But how many were there and what did they do? And, could we see more keys in future seasons of the show?

We run through the keys that appeared on the show, and explain what they all do. Spoilers ahead for season one.

Anywhere Key

One of the most powerful and useful keys appears in the very first episode of Locke & Key. The Anywhere Key gives the owner of the key the ability to travel anywhere in the world—as long as they can see their destination in their mind.

If you know where to go, simply insert the key into the nearest door—even if it is a closet door—and it will open up to your destination.
