In episode 4 of Amazon Prime’s The Feed, the Hatfields hit the reset button on Max. We also meet resisters and see Ben’s fantasies haunt him.

Previously on The Feed, Meredith Hatfield (Michelle Fairley) hid from murderous protesters and Max (Osy Ikhile) totally flipped the glitch switch, threatening to kill Tom Hatfield (Guy Burnet) and baby Bea. Though it appeared Max may have died, he is saved in the hospital. Max wakes up handcuffed in a white room, and Lawrence Hatfield (David Thewlis) wants to put him into a coma so they can evaluate his violent episode through The Feed.

Evelyn (Clare-Hope Ashitey) shows up for Max, hoping to find him in a calmer state. Things seem okay at first, but Max head butts Lawrence during the little interrogation. When Max is better restrained, Tom asks him about Feed resisters in Russia. It’s somewhat of a dead-end.

Though Max seems to accurately recall some details of his life, he almost gives a different name for himself — “Dar-” — when they ask who he is. Meredith theorizes that, because Max hasn’t tried to hurt himself, whatever’s causing The Feed glitches must be evolving.

Evelyn mentions a program called “SAVEYOU” to Lawrence as a way to bring the old Max back. Basically, the idea is that they can somehow upload an earlier version of Max into his consciousness! Running low on alternate ideas, they follow through, drugging Max and “deactivating” his current glitchy, delinquent form.

After the surgery, Max shows some signs of improvement. He knows his name, at least, and they tell him he was in an accident (technically true, in a way). Later, as a way of helping Max, Tom gets permission from Lawrence to assess The Feed of the recently deceased Sara ((Milly Thomas), who was slain by Anton (Anson Boon). Unfortunately, Tom has a negative reaction to Sara’s Feed, suggesting a powerful presence.

Meet the resisters

Meanwhile, Kate Hatfield (Nina Toussaint-White) and Jane (Olwen Fouéré) head out to see Max’s associate, Abel (Carl McCrystal). Kate was told that Abel might help her get “unplugged” from The Feed. It quickly becomes obvious that Abel is with Feed resisters, which immediately puts Kate at odd with them. Still, they meet Tia (Olivia Morgan) who tells Kate to meet Dr. Adu (Ace Bhatti), right as the police raid the resister headquarters.

Later on, Kate, Jane, and Abel do meet Dr. Adu and Kate schedules the medical procedure to remove her from The Feed. Because the Hatfield family has power, the resisters are forced to only accept payment in art or jewelry. She also must schedule the procedure for the following morning, because the resisters will change locations soon.

Relationship stuff

Episode 4 of The Feed also looks at Dan (Shaquille Ali-Yebuah), who is still not quite right after his glitch. This time he gets beat up after bumping into some Feed resisters. He meets an “offliner” named Jonah (Laurie Kynaston), he helps him recuperate.

In addition to playing some decent violin, Jonah shows Dan that he’s had his Feed removed through a surgery similar to what Kate wants. It becomes obvious that Dan and Jonah are attracted to each other. The question is, will Dan be saved from his Feed addiction, or will it continue to lead him down a most certainly darkened path.

The episode also gets back to Ben Hatfield (Jeremy Neumark Jones). He remains bitter about his breakup with Miyu (Jing Lusi), using The Feed to fantasize about her in different forms. To make it more cringy, he sometimes does this while at work. Remember, it is also a family business — meaning his mom or dad could discover his quirky little hobby, or possibly even hack into his Feed to see it firsthand! Natalie (Anneika Rose) actually interrupts him, causing him to snap at her a bit.

Basically, Ben exhibits signs of being caught up in a fantasy world. This will probably get worse after learning that Miyu is now seeing Gil (Chris Reilly). Things get stranger when Ben struggles to delete Miyu from his fantasy app, due to hacking (or another mystery glitch?). He has to delete all of the apps to remove her. The question is, will it work?
