BoJack Horseman: 5 reasons now is the perfect time to binge the series

2. There is an absurd number of talented guest stars.
As if the main cast wasn’t a big enough draw (Will Arnett, Aaron Paul, Alison Brie, Amy Sedaris, etc.) BoJack Horseman is rife with Academy Award-winning actors and actresses who couldn’t resist the urge to lend their voices to one of the show’s many colorful characters.
Character actress Margo Martindale is a fan-favorite, for good reason, as is Jessica Biel’s interesting portrayal of herself.
But you also get a number of other big-name stars like J.K. Simmons, Daniel Radcliffe, Stephen Colbert, Stanley Tucci, Stephanie Beatriz, Rami Malek, Angela Bassett, Hilary Swank, Lisa Kudrow, and much, much more. Chances are if you think a voice sounds familiar, it probably is the person you think it is.
1. It presents one of the best and most realistic portrayals of depression on television.
BoJack Horseman is, overall, a hilarious show. However, it can get quite dark at times. The protagonist grapples with legitimate depression and anxiety throughout the series; it’s one of many driving factors in his character.
There will be moments of the show that punch you in the gut, whether because it’s something you understand on a profound level, or maybe you can simply empathize with what the characters are experiencing. When people say this show is relatable, they don’t just mean in a cute personality-test type of way.
They may also mean, “wow, this is a show that seriously understands some of the ugliest parts of my character and helps me see them in a different light.” As someone who has lived with both anxiety and depression my whole life, there were times I felt like BoJack Horseman got way too real, but I still felt like suddenly, someone was seeing me clearly, warts and all.
If you need even more convincing, Medium has a great piece on why the series is worth a watch!
