4. One Tree Hill

When you think about sports dramas, One Tree Hill might not be the first show to pop up on your list. The series is better-known for its love triangles, teen dramas, and its soap-operatic storylines. However, at the heart of the show is one essential sport: basketball.

The early seasons, especially, are all about the sport. Lucas and Nathan Scott are half-brothers. They are brought together for the first time over their shared love of the game. Basketball is in their blood, thanks to their father, Dan Scott.

Many of the complexities between these relationships boil down to basketball in one way or another. But even though you may come to One Tree Hill for the basketball, you’ll find yourself sticking around for the stories and the characters.

All nine seasons are streaming on Hulu.

3. Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights is perhaps the best sports drama series of all time.

It is also one of the most critically-acclaimed, which isn’t surprising considering its all-star cast of people like Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler.

The show begins with Coach Eric Taylor (Chandler) getting ousted as the Dillon High football coach. He moves to East Dillon and must build a new championship-winning team from scratch. His wife, Tami (Britton), is the principal at West Dillon and has to contend with school zoning and the never-ending rivalry between the schools.

Even if you don’t know anything about football, you’ll fall in love with Friday Night Lights thanks to its heartfelt writing and incredible performances.

All five seasons are streaming on Hulu.
