Freeform’s new series Motherland: Fort Salem packs a punch with its strong female presence and a new form of witchcraft combat.

Motherland: Fort Salem spins a different look at the making of our country and the witches that shaped it. Unlike other supernatural series, these witches are out in the open and known to the public. In fact, these witches are seen as heroes and are on the front lines in this female-dominated world. But as everything goes, if there are good witches, we know bad witches aren’t far behind.

In this series, the evil witches are known as “The Spree.” Just like their name, they are on a killing spree throughout the world causing mass panic and a need for more good witches to fight the good fight. Only The Spree might be closer than we think.

The series follows three witches, Raelle, Abigail, and Tally, and their journey through basic training. These three witches are put in the same unit, but could not be more different.

More from Freeform

Raelle, played by Taylor Hickson, is the rebel of the group. She is having a hard time conforming to basic training and getting along with the other girls in her unit.

However, when a new love interest comes her way, she can’t help but become a little sidetracked. But could falling in love cost her more than just basic training?

Tally, played by Jessica Sutton, is the sensitive member of the group.

She comes from a humble background and unlike the others, she volunteered to join basic training rather than waiting to be called upon. While she is glad she is there, she sometimes doubts the mission. She helps to keep this group grounded and level-headed.

Then there is Abigail Bellweather. Abigail is from a prestigious and well-known witch family. The Bellweathers have been around since the beginning and seem to have pull in this world. She has focus, determination and a drive to keep the other girls in her unit in line.

With the impending fear of The Spree getting closer, the unit is being expedited through training. We think things are going to heat up pretty quickly for these three witches.
