6. Doug (1991–1994)

This one’s definitely more for the kids, but what a classic 1990s Nickelodeon cartoon! Doug was always offbeat and lovable, along with Skeeter, Patty Mayonnaise, Porkchop…and, grudgingly, you have to give Roger Klotz credit for not being that bad of a bully.

Anyway, you have options for watching Doug on Hulu, Disney+, fuboTV, and the NickHits channel on Amazon Prime. Unfortunately, not every channel has every episode, so Doug absolutists may need to mix and match their channels.

Still, it seems possible to legally access every Doug episode, which is pretty cool. While Doug isn’t nearly as irreverent on other shows on the list, there are light hints in that direction. So, while the inclusion is a bit of a stretch, the point is that it’s a solid Nick series.

Plus, The Adventures of Pete and Pete isn’t available anywhere, so we had to go with one of the best available classic Nickelodeon alternatives!

Doug is streaming on Hulu, Disney Plus, fuboTV, and NickHits channel (Amazon Prime).

5. Daria (1997–2001)

Though the character originated from Mike Judge’s Beavis & Butthead, Daria is something else entirely. Both are comedies, but Daria is simply way smarter than those two nihilists.

Co-creator Glenn Eichler explained: ” I felt that referencing [Beavis & Butthead] in Daria, while we were trying to establish the new characters and the different type of humor, ran the risk of setting up false expectations and disappointment in the viewers – which could lead to a negative reaction to the new show and its different tone.”

It was a smart choice, and, sure enough, Daria Morgendorffer, Jane Lane, and the rest are strong enough characters to stand on their own. Daria is still cool and ready to dissect the lives and frail minds of everyone within reach.

Daria is on Hulu and MTV.
