Motherland: Fort Salem Season 1, Episode 5 Recap: Bellweather Season
By Maria Alicia
Motherland: Fort Salem is heating up during the Bellweather season as the unit attends a Bellweather wedding where we know they are to be met by The Spree.
Episode 5 of Motherland: Fort Salem picks up right where we left off in the previous episode. The girls are leaving training and discussing the wedding. Abigail says that they need to impress the High Atlantic Royalty.
Abigail wants the girls to step up but Raelle only cares about getting Scylla to the wedding. Tally only cares about seeing Gerit. Raelle does not realize what she is doing, and we are left yelling at our screens!
Raelle runs to Scylla, and they take a romantic stroll through the campus and joke about running away. Scylla gives Raelle the go-ahead to go to the wedding without her, but is that really what she wants? The girls exchange gifts. Scylla gives Raelle a strange hand tattoo that will let her say hi whenever she pleases. Interesting?
Scylla is threatened by the Spree to bring them Raelle or to get invited to the party by 6 p.m.
Now we are off to the wedding! It seems like the Spree might be there. In fact, Scylla is there! She invited herself, and Abigail is not happy about it.

Abigail’s mother keeps her on a tight leash and expects a lot out of her. As Abigail introduces Tally and Raelle to the family, they seem less than impressed, mainly when Raelle introduces Scylla.
The wedding is finally about to begin, and boy do we love a good wedding. Even more than a good wedding, we love a lovely short wedding, which is exactly what we got!
After the ceremony, Abigail wants the other girls to focus on when the Dean of War College arrives at the wedding so that they can make a good impression. But, the other girls are more impressed by the lobster. Wouldn’t you be?
Anacostia goes after Scylla, and Raelle says that Scylla should not be there. Raelle gets pulled away by Tally, but Anacostia keeps going in on Scylla and threatens her that she needs to end their relationship.
Guess who shows up at the wedding? Gerit! Tally whisks him away, but we find out something interesting. He is engaged, and Tally doesn’t know! Tally calls him out on all the moves from his playbook. He keeps trying to tell her that he is engaged, but she keeps shutting his mouth.
Tally wants to return to the wedding, and Gerit tells her that he loves her, and he lets her say it back! AND he still doesn’t tell her! AND then in front of everyone, Gerit and his fiancé are announced!
Of course, Tally is now in shell shock, and they are forced to meet with the Dean of War College. Tally bolts, and Raelle goes after her. The Dean meets with Abigail and assures her that she will get in based on the merit of her mother alone. Abigail is disappointed, as she wanted to get accepted on her own.
Abigail is helping her cousin get into her celebration gown, and they discuss being married for five years and War College. Abigail leaves her cousin to soak her feet so that she can continue the night in her heels. We feel you!
Tally is in the bathroom crying and in walks Scylla. She is looking into the stalls, and Tally hides so she isn’t caught, but its Scylla who is caught talking in the mirror.
Tally emerges from the bathroom, and Scylla reunites with Raelle by the dance floor. She wants to take her away to the beach, but Raelle wants to stay on the dance floor. Is Scylla trying to save Raelle?
Abigail confronts her mother about the Dean of War College and is less than impressed with how their interaction went down.
Tally immediately finds Anacostia and tells her about Scylla and The Spree, but is it too late? Is the clock going to strike 6?
As the clock strikes 6, Abigail goes to find her cousin! She has been murdered! Was this all the Spree has sprung, or is their more to come?
Whoever it was has escaped out of the window, or so it seems. Abigail is then attacked and begins fighting two members of The Spree. Then the balloons start to come! Everyone is put in lockdown and moved inside. The women step up to blast the balloons away, but is it enough?
Abigail’s mother runs to find her, but will she be in time? Yes, and she pulls out a whip! Ok, maybe she’s a cool mom. Tally and Raelle grow concerned about Abigail, but Abigail emerges from the building, telling them her cousin is dead. Raelle finds the gift she had given Scylla in the rubble and thinks that she has been killed, as well.
We know what happens when these girls are in love, but what happens when they feel grief? All three girls have lost someone close to them. What’s next?
We can’t wait to tune in to a new episode of Motherland: Fort Salem next Wednesday at 9/8c on Freeform.
