Netflix has released the trailer for Damien Chazelle’s upcoming miniseries The Eddy. Find out what the show is about and when it premieres!

The Eddy is an upcoming Netflix miniseries created by La La Land director Damien Chazelle. Indiewire recently reported that the streaming service had debuted the trailer for the show, which is set to release on May 8.

The eight-episode miniseries takes place in modern-day Paris. André Holland of Moonlight fame stars as a jazz pianist named Elliot Udo. Formerly a celebrity in  New York, Elliot finds it difficult to maintain his club, called The Eddy. There he manages the house band and has a complicated relationship with the lead singer,  Maja.

Based on the trailer, it looks like Elliot gets involved with some gangsters to help get him and his club out of debt. They’ll do whatever it takes to get their money back, including putting Elliot, and possibly those he loves, in harm’s way.

It also appears that The Eddy will hit that jazzy sweet spot that Chazelle is known for creating. This project will be the acclaimed director’s first television project, so it’ll be interesting to see how his technique translates into a long-form medium.

Since music is a big part of this show, Netflix will release the official soundtrack alongside the Season 1 debut. According to Indiewire, the show cast real Parisian musicians to serve as members of The Eddy’s house band.

A sample of their tunes is present in the trailer below. Grammy Award-winning musician Glen Ballard composed several of the musical scores in the miniseries.
