10. The Office

It is kind of crazy to think that The Office was based on another show considering how iconic the sitcom has become in America. Along with Friends, The Office is probably the most popular sitcom of all time right now, just ask Netflix.

It has delivered countless memes and inside jokes that dominate social media regularly. It also helped launch the careers of actors like Steve Carrell and John Krasinski. Ricky Gervais is one of the only recognizable faces from the original British series, which only ran for two seasons total.

While the BBC mockumentary is iconic in its own right, it never gained the worldwide fame and recognition that the American version achieved.

9. Homeland

Homeland is Showtime’s biggest series alongside Shameless. It was initially an Israeli series called Prisoners of War, which aired for two seasons before getting canceled. It was supposed to get a third season, but it wound up never happening, which tells you most of what you need to know about the short-lived show.

But the main difference between the shows is the acting. Prisoners of War did not have Claire Danes, who has delivered a tour de force performance on Homeland for almost a decade now. Claire has won multiple Primetime Emmy Awards for her performance as Carrie Matheson, a CIA officer who struggles with bipolar disorder.
