6. The Killing

The Killing was a moody crime drama that helped popularize the current craze. Originally airing on AMC, the show was canceled before becoming one of Netflix’s first major rescues. It ran for four seasons in total.

The Killing was based on a Danish crime series titled Forbrydelsen, which was good, but not as good as The Killing. The Killing did pretty much everything better than Forbrydelsen, including the actual mystery itself and the performances.

Mireille Enos was easily the cast standout. While some of the later seasons of The Killing don’t quite hold a candle to the first, it is still considered one of the best crime dramas (and TV remakes) around.

5. Nikita

Since Nikita aired on The CW, it was seriously underrated, which is a shame because it shaped up to be an excellent spy thriller and Maggie Q dominated in her starring role. Technically, Nikita was adapted from two different mediums since the original La Femme Nikita started as a film before being turned into a television show that ran for five seasons.

The CW version only ran for four seasons, but it gave us quite an incredible heroine and some truly sinister and cunning villains throughout its run. Plus, many fans grew very attached to the will-they-or-won’t-they relationship between Nikita and Michael and really valued the friendship between Alex and Nikita.
