2. Battlestar Galactica
Not only is Battlestar Galactica considered one of the best sci-fi shows of all time, but it is considered one of the best TV remakes out there. It is a reimagining of the 1978 series created by Glen A. Larson. The version from the ’70s isn’t bad, but it is very different. For starters, the original show was very episodic.
You didn’t necessarily need to watch every episode and that couldn’t be farther from the truth in the updated 2004 version of the show which is heavily serialized. Not only that, but the remake is more introspective and philosophical in nature than the original.
Despite having similar storylines and plot points, the 2004 version of the show was never afraid to explore the darkest themes of humanity. It secured numerous Emmy wins during its run and has even been compared to shows like The Sopranos, except in the science-fiction genre.
It is hard to watch modern sci-fi shows without seeing traces of Battlestar Galactica, which has clearly gone on to inspire many creators.
1. One Day at a Time
When One Day at a Time premiered in 2017, no one was expecting it to become such a beloved family sitcom, but it did. In fact, when Netflix canceled it fans rallied around the show and helped it get saved by Pop TV.
The original Norman Lear-created sitcom was a hit when it aired in 1975, but not nearly as impactful and resonant as the 2017 version, which is centered around a Hispanic family. The new show is far more progressive and tackles a lot of important and timely subjects that fans find relatable.
Many people have spoken about how One Day at a Time helped them through a difficult period in their life.
Which of these TV remakes do you feel is better than the original? Are there any on this list you disagree with? Tell us why in the comments below!
