Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed, and 5 video game movies that should be rebooted as TV shows

4. Doom
There was a lot of excitement surrounding the adaptation of Doom in 2005. With an all-star cast including Karl Urban, Rosamund Pike, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, the film seemed set for success. Except, the producers forgot what made the game special – being a first-person shooter.
The game is considered to have popularized the FPS concept, so why did the adaptation avoid it? Because of the said star cast. The one point-of-view scene in the film is widely considered its only redeeming aspect.
Creating a show with an unnamed and unseen protagonist would be ideal. Viewers could see themselves as the hero, which would make it more representative than most shows on screen today. With the range of body cameras and handhelds now available, a Doom series adaptation could easily concentrate on bringing the visuals of fellow marines and the undead to life.
3. Tomb Raider
Lara Croft is the most famous video game character out there. People needn’t have played a single video game in their life to recognize this character. You’d think this franchise would work well in a film adaptation, except it hasn’t.
The two Angelina Jolie films were lackluster at best, and the 2018 reboot with Alicia Vikander was utterly forgettable. That’s because Croft is about action, intrigue, and discovery, and viewers need this combination to enjoy a Tomb Raider series.
The 2013 video game reboot was a game-changer in video game storytelling. Rhianna Pratchett added layers and depth to the game, which makes it a perfect choice for a series adaptation. A show would allow Croft to be a multi-dimensional protagonist. Plus, we can imagine the fantastic locales and adventures the character would take the viewers on.
